India is a land of wonder. We are over 1 billion people, worshipping different gods and celebrating different festivals. While most festivals are specific to certain faiths, there are others, which originated from particular regions but were so much fun that everyone welcomed them with open arms. Yes, ladies and gentleman, we are talking about the festival of colors, Holi. That one day from a long list of festivals when people from all faiths, and regions come together to splash some color on their differences. Anyone who loves fun and doesn’t mind letting loose for a day, loves Holi. So much so, that the pre-Holi planning starts long before the d-day. Enthusiasts start stocking up on the Holi essentials – colors, water guns (pichkari) and balloons, tummy-pleasing Ghujias, and bhaang-adorned thandai. Though the festival is intended to be fun and jolly, it gets unpleasant too at times. Instances of drunken riots and skin-burning paints aren’t very uncommon. So, avoid all that could be a possible kill-joy and have as much fun as you can, safely and responsibly. Also, remember to clear you precious Holi checklist! While you’re at it, do remember to participate in HomeShop18 TV channel’s on-going Holi Hungama, where you could win daily prizes (Philips headphones), new special prizes every day, or the bumper prize – a full-blown [...]

If the entire womankind could be granted three wishes by a genie, they would definitely be – a box full of precious diamonds, an ideal suitor and a flawless skin. While the first two somewhat lie in the fairy tales range, third one is very much a real-world problem. Unfortunately, there is no cure-all remedy for skin woes. Instead, there is a huge repository of quack and messy home-made recipes. Biggest drawback of such formulae is that their preparation takes way too much time than one can afford in today’s fast paced life. Enter… skin care products… that one time-saving blessing since invention of canned food! Only challenge with the whole arrangement is determining the right product for your skin type. Easiest way of going about it is to carefully research the product’s ingredients for their remedial properties. Next, figure out your skin type, whether it is oily, dry, normal or combination. Once done, get your skin tested for sensitivity. Many women realise its importance only after something goes horribly wrong with something as unsuspecting as a moisturiser. Last, but definitely not the least, list your skin concerns. Even if it is taken that your skin needs regular nourishment, check to see if it also needs additional maintenance or repair. For e.g. If you have fine lines that need special [...]

Are you game?

January 21, 2012Tagged: Product Features

For those born in the 80s, entertainment options were few. Other than Bon Jovi and Back to the Future, there wasn’t much else happening, i.e. until the arcade games came along. Only, no one then had a fleeting clue that this rage would evolve into a full-fledged industry. Starting with wall-sized machines hosting mechanical controls, gaming today has us spoiled for choice. Just think about it… twenty years back, games were fun but restricted to gaming parlours, where one had to wait for hours before getting his/her 15 minute turn to play Donkey Kong. Now, you can to enjoy endless hours of your favourite games over the TV, computer or on the go with your personal gaming console. Yet, quite noticeably, it’s not the freedom of hours of gaming, but the experience that has leapfrogged incredibly. Take an example of the classic 80s game Super Mario Bros (Nintendo), where the plumber brothers strutted across the pixelated mushroom kingdom to rescue princess Toadstool.  It has come a long way since with below average resolution to a crisp 3D. Another example of FIFA, which once was played using a PC keyboard/mouse or a wired remote control, now follows motion sensor gaming. Just face your console (Xbox 360 with Kinect) and pretend to be in a football stadium and you could feel like [...]
